Holcim France announced short-term investments
Holcim France recently announced valuable short-term investments of € 60m for the decarbonization of its operations. The investments will include initiatives in the Martres-Tolosane cement plant (photo) to improve carbon capture, as well as the recovery of fuels from biomass waste in Saint-Pierre-la-Cour, Martres-Tolosane and Port-La-Nouvelle. These projects will be operational between 2025 and 2026 to avoid 0.12 Mt of CO2.
Cement prices in Germany are also in a decrease
In the first 3 months of 2024 the average cement prices in Germany, calculated from quantities sold and revenues, declined by -1.4%. The latest average cement price has been 122.02 €/t after 123.81 €/t in January.
Ukraine’s cement exports massively increased
From January to April 2024, the cement exports by the Ukraine massively increased by +61.9% to 0.434 Mt, after 0.268 Mt in the same period last year. That this is possible in a war-torn country exceeds expectations.
Swedens CemVision scaling-up relation with Peab
CemVision announced an agreement with Peab, one of Sweden’s largest construction companies and leading concrete supplier in Northern Europe (Photo: concrete application by Peab). This new agreement marks the start of cement deliveries to several of Peab’s construction projects. Cemvision is using valuable byproducts for producing a high-performance cement that reduces CO2 emissions by over 95% compared to traditional Portland cement.

In the first quarter of 2024, cement production in Germany still declined massively by -16.0% to 4.765 Mt, after 5.673 Mt in the same period last year. This decline has an impact on the next free CO2 allowances, which will be reduced according to the real cement production of cement producers.
India’s JSW Cement proposed new greenfield plant
JSW Cement intends to establish a new greenfield cement complex in Naguar in the North of India. The integrated plant shall have an initial capacity of 3.3 Mta. The exact timeline has not been given. JSW has a capacity of 19 Mta across its manufacturing units in Vijayanagar in Karnataka, Nandyal in Andhra Pradesh, Salboni in West Bengal, Jajpur in Odisha, and Dolvi in Maharashtra.
