Heidelberg Materials will close two plants in France
Heidelberg Materials France plans a restructuring that would result in the closure of the two cement plants in Beffes (photo) and Villiers-au-Bouin in Indre-et-Loire. 170 employees are affected by the plant closures in 2025. The decision comes amid a significant decline in cement sales in France. Driving an ambitious decarbonisation strategy, Heidelberg Materials France introduced a substantial investment plan of more than €400 million to reduce CO₂ emissions with modernisation measures at the Airvault site in Deux-Sèvres, the Beaucaire site in Gard, the Bussac-Forêt site in Charente-Maritime, and the Couvrot site in Marne.
India’s Ramco Cements expanded Odisha Grinding Unit
The Ramco Cements Ltd. commissioned grinding Line II in Hariaspur, Jaipur District in Odisha, India. The capacity of the plant (photo: Line I) has been doubled to 1.8 Mta (we reported 16. Oct. 2023). Now the plant is equipped with two vertical roller mills (VRM) and its own wagon tippler system for automatic unloading of raw materials. It serves the cement markets in Odisha and Eastern States with OPC, PPC and PSC. By FY26, the company’s total installed capacity shall be increased to 19.0 Mta clinker and 26.0 Mta cement. The total capacity of waste-heat-recovery (WHR)- systems shall be increased to 68 MW.
Pakistan’s cement exports recovered in 3M 2024
In the first 3 months of 2024 Pakistan exported 1.448 Mt of cement, which is an increased by +11.3%, after 1.301 Mt the same period in 2023. A huge increase by +38.1% YoY has been recorded in March, while in February there was still a decrease by -11.0% YoY.
Pakistan’s cement dispatch declined -12.9 in 3M 2024
From January to March 2024, Pakistan's cement manufacturers dispatched 9.562 Mt of cement, which is a decline by -12.9% compared to 10.980 Mt same period in 2023. Lowest decline has been in March with -0.2% YoY, largest was in February with -19.2% YoY
Pakistan’s Flying Cement starting its new Line II
Flying Cement Limited is going to start its new cement production Line II in Mangwal, in the heart of the Punjab province in Pakistan. The new line comprises a 7700 tpd kiln with an ICL-preheater, a Cross-Bar-cooler and an OK 71-6 cement mill for 415 t/h of OPC. The plant contract had been awarded to FLSmidth in March 2019. Plant commissioning had been postponed from 2021 to 2024. The start-up of the 3.0 Mta cement line this year comes amidst low capacity utilisation of Pakistan’s cement industry. Probably the existing Line I will be closed, when Line II is operational. Line I has a capacity of 4000 tpd and had been supplied by Japanese IHI.
Japan’s cement exports recovered in Feb. 2024
In the first two month of 2024, Japan's cement exports significantly recovered by +4.8% to 1.053 Mt, after 1.005 Mt in the same period last year. February even saw a +19.5% YoY exports growth, while the January exports still declined by -8.5% YoY.
