Liberia’s cement production -14.8% in 06M 2025
In the first 6 months in 2025, Liberia’s cement production decreased by -14.8% to 331 kt, after 388 kt in the same period last year and 289 kt in the year before.
Massive capacity expansion projects planned in Libya
In the coming years in Libya a number of new kiln lines are planned for a massive capacity expansion. The new 6000 tpd New Benghazi plant of LCC is under construction to replace two older plants (photo) in the East. The 3500 tpd Suluq Al-Jadida line by Al-Rayan Holding is under construction in the West, where also the Al-Ahlia Lebda-Zliten 6600 tpd plant is planned, while the financial status of this project is unclear (we reported here 02.09.2024). Sinoma is in all three cases the EPC contractor or MoU partner. Two more projects shall be reactivated. The Misrata project by LAIC in the West and the Mahrouga project near Sabha in the Southern region.
Russia’s cement prices up +11.2% YoY in July 2025
In July 2025, the average cement prices in Russia increased by +11.2% YoY to 7246 Rub/t, after 6514 Rub/t in the same period last year and 5686 Rub/t in the year before.
US Cement demand declined -5.8% in 05M 2025
In the first 5 months in 2025 the US cement demand (Portland, blended and masonry cement) declined by -5.8% to 38.674 Mt, after 41.055 Mt in the last year and 42.566 Mt in the year before.
Nigeria‘s Dangote plans exports and moderate expansion
Nigeria’s Dangote Cement has become the largest cement company in Sub-Saharan Africa, operating in 10 countries. However, the capacity expansion is moderate now, after a more aggressive strategy in recent years (photo: Ndola integrated cement plant in Zambia). Two more projects shall be operational in the coming 2-3 years, the new greenfield 6.0 Mta Itori cement plant in Nigeria (we reported here 27.12.2023) and the 2.5 Mta expansion of the Mugher cement plant in Ethiopia (we reported here 17.02.2025). This will increase Dangote’s cement capacity from 52.0 Mta to 60.5 Mta by 2027/28.
US cement imports declined -9.5% in 05M 2025
In the first 05 months in 2025, the US cement imports of Portland, blended and masonry cement declined by -9.5% to 7.324 Mt, after 8.091 Mt in the same period last year and 7.753 Mt in the year before.
