India’s Ambuja to invest in new cement and clinker carriers

India’s Ambuja Cement to invest Rs 2,500 crore in two cement and eight clinker carriers. Today’s costs for a 38,500 t capacity Handymax cement carrier are about RS 400 crore, while a 9,200 t capacity ‘Sanghimax’ clinker carrier will cost about Rs 200 crore, each. The shipbuilding contract will be awarded either to Cochin Shipyard or Svan Defence & Heavy Industries within the next 15 days. Ambuja Cement currently runs 11 pure cement carriers (photo) that transport cement from the production sites to the consumption areas.
