
Heidelberg Materials in the UK has been granted planning permission to build the CCS unit in the Padeswood cement plant in North Wales. The plant shall be equipped with an amine technology and absorber tower for the flue gases to capture 0.8 Mta of CO2. After carbon capture the CO2 is compressed in the plant and transported via a 30 km pipeline to an intermediate storage hub, from where the CO2 shall be transported in a 32 km pipeline, and permanently stored 1 km under the seabed in the Liverpool Bay (we reported here, 07.10.2024 and 02.07.2023). The technology provided has not been announced jet, the CCS project shall be operational as early as 2028.
