Holcim Romania and its key partner Carmeuse in the carbon hub CPT01 project will receive a grant from the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) for this initiative, while the project is also financed by the EU Innovation Fund (we reported here 7.11.2025). The project marks a groundbreaking effort in carbon capture and storage (CCS) in Romania and will take place in the Câmpulung industrial area. With CCS systems for the flue gases of the Holcim cement plant and the Carmeuse lime plant, the production of about 2 Mta of ‘nearly zero-emission cement’ and 0.2 Mta of lime with ‘nearly zero emissions’ shall be achieved.
