Cemex in Spain has received a €200m grant under the PERTE Industrial Decarbonisation Program (Line 1) for its SOMZERO CCS project at the Alcanar plant in Tarragona (photo). The project includes an initial investment of €450m and aims to capture more than 0.5 Mta of CO₂ after 2030. SOMZERO will contribute to developing a CO₂ hub in Catalonia, facilitating the participation of various public and private entities. The project is part of ‘Futuro en Acción’, Cemex’s global sustainability strategy, and reinforces the public-private collaboration and inclusive approach needed to advance toward a more competitive, resilient, and climate-neutral economy.
