Holcim has launched a calcined clay line at its Čížkovice cement plant (photo) in the Czech Republic to scale its sustainable offering. The production facility was about CZK 1bn (CHF 40m) and has a capacity to supply 0.58 Mta of calcined clay cement, which is marketed by Holcim under the brand name ECO-Planet cement. Technical partners are Sinoma and Köllemann. With an annual capacity of more than 115 000 tons of calcined clay – sourced from Holcim’s local quarry – the line uses patented technology to partially replace clinker in the kiln with calcined clay, reducing the cement’s carbon footprint by around 30%, with no compromise in performance.
