Germany’s cement industry achieves 64.5% clinker factor

VDZ2025 update

Germany’s Cement Producer Association VDZ reported that the clinker factor could be reduced from 66.7% in 2024 to 64.5% in 2025, which is an all-time low. This continues a development that has already been visible in recent years with a clinker factor of 71.3% still in 2021. A key driver of this development is the dynamic development of CEM II/C-M cements (see figure). Their market share has risen to 7% within a few years. CEM VI cements also contributed to the decline. With a cement production almost constant in 2025, the reduction of the clinker factor alone reduced the CO2 emissions of the German cement industry by 3.5%.
