The EU Innovation Fund selected Swedens Cemvision for a €27.5 m grant for a 0.5 Mta large-scale near-zero cement plant in Latvia. The compaany will now prepare the grant agreement with the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA). The agreement is expected to be signed between November 2026 and March 2027. Cemvision uses circular feedstocks, including steel-industry slags, and an electrified process to produce cement with substantially lower greenhouse gas emissions than conventional cement. Once operational, the plant is designed to produce up to 500,000 tonnes of cement a year and to avoid an estimated 3,1 million tonnes of CO₂ over its first ten years of operation.
