Ethiopia’s Lemi 4.5 Mta cement plant is operating

Lemi National Cement launched their giant 4.5 Mta cement plant (10.000 tpd clinker) in the Amhara region of Ethiopia, about 130 km north to capital Addis Ababa. The company is a strategic alliance of East African Holding (EAH) and West International Holding (WIH) and was formed in 2022 (we reported here 28.11.2023). EAH operates via its subsidiary National Cement a 1.3 Mta cement plant in Dira Dawa in Ethiopia’s east, while WIH is a subsidiary of West China Cement, which operates 29 Mta cement capacity and also entered Angola, Mozambique and the DR Congo. WIH is also involved in the new 6000 tpd cement plant project in the Melka Jebdu industrial park 19 km west of Dira Dawa, operational in 2025.
