UK’s Aggregate Industries, which is a part of Holcim, operates the 1.0 Mta dry-process cement plant in Cauldon, Stoke-on-Trent. The company will use Petrofac’s consulting team to identify opportunities for capturing CO2 at the Cauldon plant. The facility currently emits over 0.6 Mta of CO2 from its operations. The project is part of UK’s ‘Peak Cluster’ development. From 2030, this cluster which also includes Breedon, Tarmac and Lhoist aims to cut more than 3.0 Mta of CO2 emissions from cement, lime, and waste-to-energy plants in the Peak District for transporting it via underground pipelines to permanent storage under the seabed in the eastern Irish Sea.
