The Botswana Government will restrict the import of bagged cement from October this year, announced in the Statutory Statements No. 44, 2024. The maximum import load of a package shall not exceed 1t of cement. The import restrictions are antidumping measures to safe the almost 0.5 Mta cement capacity of the 3 local producers (photo: PCC Gabarone Grinding Station). Last year the local demand has been 0.60 Mta, 25% is supplied in bulk and 75% as bagged cement. Producers announced to adjust their cement capacity to the new rules in anticipation of the increased demand and also to increase fly ash bulk deliveries from South Africa.
