Cement CCUS projects granted by EU Innovation Fund

CO2 impact of CCUS in Cement

The EU Commission announced today €2.9bn in funding 61 ‘cutting-edge’ net-zero technology funding projects, according to the IF24 net-zero-call launched in December 2024. The developers of the 61 successful projects have been invited to start the grant agreement preparation phase with the European Agency CINEA. The results of this process with budget, timetable and responsibilities will be confirmed in the first half of 2026. The projects cover all industries, including chemical, refineries, hydrogen, energy, waste as well as ‘cement and lime’. There are only 4 CCUS projects by the cement industry, 2 SCM projects, 1 Mecaclay, 1 CO2 Hub. Of these, alone 4 are in France or Belgium. Heidelberg Materials will receive 3 CCUS grants, only 1 is a new project.
