Cemex Deutschand has signed a JV with recycling service provider ALBA Group for the construction of a biochar production plant in Germany. The facility will be located in the Rüdersdorf cement plant close to Berlin and produce biochar from a number of biogenic wastes. The product will be used as an alternative fuel to further reduce greenhouse gases in the cement production. Cemex and ALBA work already together since 2006. The ALCE JV plant, in which ALBA holds 51% shares, shall be operational by the end of 2026. The project is part of the Carbon Neutral Alliance, which aims to produce carbon-neutral cement by 2030 at Rüdersdorf.
