The new cement plant complex of Lemi National Cement PLC in Ethiopia is a new benchmark. The company is a joint venture between Ethiopia’s East African Holding and Chinese West International Holding (WIH). The cement plant is installed by Sinoma Suzhou in the Northern part of the Amhara Region, 130 km from Addis Ababa. It will comprise a 10,000 tpd clinker and 4.5 Mta cement production, plus a 30 Mm2 gypsum board factory and other gypsum, concrete and aggregates facilities. Plant commissioning is expected in summer 2024. The East African Holding alone will be able to cover 50% of the cement production in Ethiopia.
