Germany’s cement industry cuts 9.9% CO2/t clinker

VDZ 2020 10 22

The DEHSt published in their latest official CO2 report that in 2024 the emissions for the clinker production in Germany have been reduced by 9.9% from 16.1 Mta CO2eq. to 14.5 Mta CO2eq., or 0.6 Mta. The German Cement Producer Association VDZ (photo HQ) reported that the clinker factor could by reduced in 2024 to 66.7%, which is an all-time low. This corresponds to a clinker factor of 70.4% in 2023 (calculated from a production of 19.914 Mta clinker and 28.185 Mta cement), which has been relatively stable over several years. Anyhow, in 2024 there has been a significant change in the cement compositions in Germany, especially an increase of CEM II-M cements.
