The EU Innovation Fund will provide 191 €m for the GeZero project of Heidelberg Materials at the Geseke cement plant (photo credit: Steffen Höft) in Northern Germany. GeZero aims to deploy an entire CCS value chain, capturing 0.7 Mta of CO₂ from 2029. The cement plant will be equipped with a carbon capture facility and a new Oxyfuel kiln. The CO₂ will be transported to Wintershall Dea’s CO₂ hub to be safely stored in the North Sea. Construction of the facility will start in 2026, commissioning is planned for 2029.
