Heidelberg Materials, the only cement producer in Sweden, intends to focus its activities at the Slite site and to end clinker production in Skövde from 2027 on-wards. Background is the decline in cement sales, driven by continued weak construction demand in the country and limited exports. About 25% of Sweden’s cement production will be continued in Skövde with clinker from Slite. Anyhow, the announced installation of a 1 MW plasma driven kiln in Skövde for scaling-up the development of electrified clinker and cement production, is now uncertain.
