Due to low market demand, Heidelberg Materials decided to shut down the clinker production in its Hanover cement plant in Germany, in the 2nd half 2024. The plant has a 0.7 Mta clinker capacity, which can be more than compensated from its neighbouring Westphalian cement plants. Anyhow, the Hanover plant will continue as a cement grinding unit and accordingly part of the 120 employees will be needed in the grinding facility. However, the site’s LEILAC 2 demonstration project for CO2 capture, which was planned for implementation by the end of 2025, shall be carried out at another site of Heidelberg Materials.
