Holcim Poland demonstrated at the Małogoszcz cement plant that a 100% thermal substitution rate (TSR) is possible. The result has been achieved in several tests, in collaboration with Geocycle, by using only alternative fuels in kiln firing, totally replacing fossil fuels such as coal. The tests are part of Holcim Group’s long-term strategy to transform the construction industry towards a low-emission and circular model. Since the mid-1990s, the company has increased the share of alternative fuels in its cement plants in Europe to almost 90%.
