In Europe, alternative fuel (AF) rates above 80% are already a reality at several cement plants of Holcim. More than 3 Mt of AF will be processed by Holcim in Europe in 2023. This shall be further increased in Europe. On an average, the company plans to substitute traditional fuels with 70% AF by 2025 and with 90% AF by 2030. According to Holcim with each increase of 1% in the AF fuel rate about 2 to 4 kg of CO2 are reduced per net t of cementitious material. The charts shows Holcim’s cement plants in Europe with 80% and more use of alternative fuels.
