The ACT technology by Irish cement producer Ecocem shall decarbonise the production of cement by as much as 70% compared to standard cement blends. ACT is a low-clinker cement technology, where clinker is mostly replaced by activated limestone and cementitious materials such as clay and slag. ACT is fully scalable and can be produced within existing cement plants without significant additional investment or modifications. Ecocem announced in March that it has agreed a deal with Overslagbedrijf Moerdijk to expand the storage capacity and cement production in The Netherlands, where the ACT technology shall be commercially available by 2026.
