Italy’s Ravenna Hub looks for Heidelberg Materials

The Ravenna Hub in Northeast Italy aims to become the pioneer CCS hub in the Mediterranean for the storage of captured CO2 in depleted gas reservoirs in the Adriatic off the coast of Ravenna. The hub will be operated by Italian utility company Eni in a joint venture with Italian gas transport infrastructure company Snam. The JV launched phase 1 of the project in Q4 2022. Phase 2, scheduled to start in 2027, aims for the storage of 4 Mta of CO2, 1 million t will come from plants owned by Eni and the remaining 3 million t will be reserved for third party industrial emitters, including cement producers Heidelberg Materials and Calcestruzzi. Up to now, no official statements by Heidelberg Materials have been given.
