Kenya’s Bamburi Cement to be acquired by Amsons

Lafarge Bamburi

The Amsons Group, Tanzania’s leading energy, food and transport company, is looking to acquire up to 100% stake in Bamburi Cement in Kenya. Bamburi, which is owned by Lafarge (Holcim Group) operates an integrated cement plant (photo) with 3.2 Mta capacity. The offer is Sh65 per share in Bamburi, corresponding to US$ 180m. Amsons will increase its cement capacity to 4.4 Mta in East Africa, after acquiring a 65% stake from Lafarge in Tanzania’s 1.1 Mta Mbeya Cement in November last year. Holcim’s strategy is to concentrate on core cement markets.
