Northern Lights, which is a JV of Equinor, Shell and TotalEnergies with HQ in Stavanger, Norway, will expand its fleet of CO2 transport ships. The company offers CO₂ transport and storage as a service and started first injection of liquid CO₂ in August 2025 from Heidelberg Materials’ Brevik plant to a receiving terminal (photo) for permanent storage in a reservoir 2,600 meters under the seabed. The 3 newbuild vessels with 7,500 m3 CO2 storage capacity in operation will have one addition this year. For the coming years four more vessels with 12.500 m3 CO2 storage capacity will be chartered. The long-term time charter agreements are for cross-border transport of CO₂ from commercial customers in Europe under the seabed of Norway’s coast.
