Belgium’s AllianceLCCC provided new low carbon roadmap
The Alliance of Low Carbon Cement & Concrete (AllianceLCCC), based in Belgium, provided recommendations for low carbon cement & concrete in their new roadmap 2029. According to the AllianceLCCC, safe, scalable, and cost-effective technology to significantly reduce the massive environmental impact of cement and concrete already exist. It is now on the shoulders of legislators in the upcoming policy cycle to make them the norm in the EU. The Alliance, which already comprises 25 members, committed to decarbonise cement and concrete and targeting net zero by 2040.
Colombia’s cement production -4.0% in 4M 2024
In the first 4 months of 2024, Colombia's cement production declined -4.0% to 4.351 Mt, after 4.531 Mt in the same period last year and 4.731 Mt in the year before.
Japan stopped downward cement production trend
In the first 4 months of 2024, Japan's cement production declined by -3.2% to 14.929 Mt, after 15.416 Mt in the same period last year, however in March-April this year the cement production is on par with the production in March-April last year.
Vietnam’s cement & clinker exports in 1.Q 2024
In the first quarter of 2024, Vietnam's cement and clinker exports increased +2.3% to 8.035 Mt, after 7.856 Mt in the same period last year. Large increases of 22.1% were from Bangladesh, which has become the No.1 export country with 27.6%. However, we are often asked about the cement data from Vietnam, especially those by the 'General Statistics Office' (GSO) of Vietnam. Be careful, if figures for May are published, even before the end of May, that the cement production figures totaled 57.5 Mt. To our knowledge this is not real, because the GSO has always included clinker exports in the cement production. Vietnam’s Long Son Cement expands grinding capacity
Long Son Cement, which is located in the Thanh Hoa province in the Middle of Northern Vietnam, has received the approval for their cement grinding project. The project for GU2 dates back to 2019 and foresees an expansion of the cement grinding capacity from 1.45 Mta to 3.4 Mta. Total project investment costs are VDN 1,700 bn, of which about 73.3% will be provided by loans. The Thanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee is expecting the new unit to be operational beginning of next year. Long Son operates 3 kiln lines (photo). Most of the clinker has been transported to Southern Vietnam or exported. However, Vietnam’s clinker exports declined significantly in the last few years.
