Huaxin Cement commissioned the new 4000 tpd kiln line of Maweni Limestone Limited (MLL) in the Tanga Region of Tanzania. The construction of the project (Phase II) started on July 26, 2022 with a groundbreaking ceremony (photo). It is the first modern dry-process clinker production line interdependently developed by Huaxin in Africa, following the acquisition in 2019 of the ARM Cement assets in Tanzania with Phase I (existing 4000 tpd kiln line and 0.75 Mta cement grinding unit). Phase II has been finished in record 16 months construction time in line with China’s ‘Belt and Road’-initiative.

Ambuja Cement plans 6 Mta plant in Telangana, India
The Adani Group signed a MoU with the Govt. of Telangana in India to invest Rs 1,400 crore to set up a 6.0 Mta cement plant in the next five years. This project, announced 2 weeks ago, would be put up by Ambuja Cement, probably as an integrated plant with clinker and cement production and an additional cement grinding unit. The new facility would be set up across 70 acres and would significantly enhance Ambuja’s capacity (photo: Marwar greenfield cement plant). It will provide employment for over 4,000 people, both directly and indirectly.
Bolivia’s cement consumption on the rise
In Bolivia, in the period from January to November 2023, the cement consumption increased by +4.9% to 3.626 Mt, after 3.458 Mt in the same period in 2022. Interestingly, alone in November 2023 the consumption increased by +22.7% YoY to 0.371 Mt.

In Bolivia, from January to November 2023, the cement production increased by +2.9%, YoY to 3.635 Mta, after 3.532 Mt in the same period the year before. In November the production increased even +16.4% YoY to 0.359 Mt.
Upgrade of Supremo Secil’s Adrianopolis plant in Brazil
The kiln line upgrade of the Adrianopolis plant in Parana, Brazil, of Supremo Secil Cimentos is progressing. The kiln capacity of the 1.7 Mta plant is expanded to 3900 tpd by FLSmidth, who initially supplied and commissioned the plant in 2015. In particular, the upgrade of the pyro process system includes modifications of the preheater, cooler and related auxiliary equipment. At the same time with the capacity expansion, the use of fossil fuels will be reduced to reach at least 40% thermal substitution with a mixture of RDF (refuse derived fuels) and other alternative fuels.
Colombia’s annual cement production slightly lower 2023
In Colombia, in 2023 the annual cement production declined by -2.7% to 14.211 Mta, after 14.811 Mta in 2022 and 13.797 Mta in 2021. The cement capacity utilization slightly from 76.9% in 2022 to 74.8% in 2023.
T&T cement production minus -4% in first 3Q 2023
In the first 3 quarters of 2023, the cement production of Trinidad & Tobago (T&T) declined by -4.0% to 0.536 Mt, after 0.559 Mt same period in 2022. The cement market in T&T and the Dominican Republic are a benchmark for the cement market in the Caribbean.
