Taiheiyo Cement is developing a new Oxyfuel version in Japan for carbon capturing and later storage or producing synthetic methane. The project is part of the NEDO (New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization) Green Innovation (GI) Fund project. The ‘C2SP kiln’ (illustration) can directly capture CO2 with compact equipment by increasing the CO2 concentration in the calciner exhaust gas, using a mixture of oxygen and CO2 instead of the usual air as the combustion gas for the calciner. In March 2024 a demonstration test facility was completed in Sanyo Onoda City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The next development step is underway at the DC cement plant.

In October 2025, the average cement prices in Russia increased by +6.8% YoY to 7019 Rub/t, after 6573 Rub/t in the same period last year and 5933 Rub/t in the year before.

Nigercem in Nigeria’s Ebonyi State shall be revived
The Ebonyi State Government in Nigeria plans to borrow NGN 150bn (about US$ 103m) to finance the construction of a new state-owned cement plant, as part of the state’s 2026 budget. The project is to build a greenfield cement plant on the local limestone and raw material deposits, which have formerly been used by Nigercem. However, the old plant (photo) has been completely decommissioned and closed down. A revival of the cement production is only possible with a new factory.
Uzbekistan’s cement production up +30.1% in 10M 2025
In the first 10 months 2025, Uzbekistan’s cement production of the large cement plants increased by +30.1% to 17.3Mt, after 13.3 Mt in the same period last year and 10.2 Mt in the year before.

India’s JK Cement achieved a milestone with the ignition of the 4.4 Mta clinker line at Panna in Madhya Pradesh. This new production line is marking another significant step of the company, with this addition JK Cement is well on track to achieve a cement capacity of 30 Mta in this FY.
