Schwenk Latvia aims to capture 0.75 Mta CO2 at Broceni

Capsol Technologies Demo Unit

Schwenk Cement is interested to apply the CapsolEoP® (end-of-pipe) carbon capture technology of the Norwegian Capsol Technologies at its Broceni cement plant in Latvia. The ‘post combustion’ carbon capture technology of Capsol is a chemical absorption process that uses hot potassium carbonate (HPC) instead of Amine and can reduce levelized CO2 capture costs with energy recirculation by more than 25%. High CO2 concentration in the flue gas (15-20%) as in cement plants is a major advantage for CapsolEoP® (photo: demo unit). The project will be started with a feasibility study this year.
