Speed plant in the USA converted to slag grinding unit

Heidelberg Materials Speed

Heidelberg Materials has converted its Speed cement plant in Indiana, USA, to a slag grinding facility. Cement production in the plant has been ceased last year after opening the Mitchell plant. The Speed plant has a grinding capacity of 0.4 Mta, which is now being used for grinding granulated blast furnace slag. The plant will be used as a distribution hub for cement produced at the Mitchell plant as well as a producing slag cement and cementitious products. Worldwide, Portland cement has to be reduced in concrete mixes with slag cement to lower the environmental and CO2 impact of the production. Heidelberg Materials follows an ambitious global climate strategy, aiming to generate 50% of its revenue from sustainable products that are either low-carbon or circular by 2030.
