Türkiye’s Akros Cimento struggles with export situation

Akros Cimento 1

Akros Cimento had invested US$ 175 m in a 2.5 Mta integrated cement plant in the Bursa Yenişehir district in Türkiye. The company was established as a Turkish-Russian partnership to export the majority of its cement to Russia and Africa. After the installation of a modern 6-stage, 2-string preheater, competitive cement has been produced and the company had plans to double its cement capacity to 5.0 Mta. However, the market significantly changed with the Russian-Ukrainian war and the 2-digit decline in the cement exports by Türkiye’s cement producers last year. Akros has to transport its cement over a distance of about 30 km to the Gemlik port, which is a disadvantage compared to direct cement export locations.
