The Government of the UK reaffirmed its commitment on carbon capture storage projects in Northern England and announced a € 26.3bn funding over the next 25 years to establish two carbon capture clusters in Merseyside and Teesside. The Padeswood cement plant CCS project by Heidelberg Materials UK which is part of the HyNet North West decarbonisation cluster is included, transporting CO2 by a pipeline and storing it under the seabed in the Liverpool Bay (we reported here, 02.07.2023). The CCS-project plans to capture up to 0.8 Mta CO2 from the cement plant as early as 2028.
