Ozinga has officially broken ground on a cutting-edge low-carbon cement manufacturing facility in East Chicago, in the US state of Indiana. The new plant will be strategically located with direct access to rail, truck, and water (via the Great Lakes and the inland waterways of the US) and will serve customers across the United States and Canada. The operation (illustration) will be equipped with a MVR 5300-C6 vertical roller mill by Gebr. Pfeiffer, mainly for grinding slag to produce ASTM C989-compliant low-carbon slag cement, as well as proprietary blends. The intention is to deliver a close to net-zero concrete and save 0.7 Mta of CO2, when compared with standard cements. The operation is expected to begin in 2026.
