Yaobai Cement, which is a subsidiary of Chinese WIH), will officially open a new cement plant in Moroto in Northern Uganda. The plant is a US$300 million investment, has two phases, while in the first phase about 0.6 Mta of clinker shall be produced. That output is expected to significantly reduce the country’s reliance on clinker imports, boost jobs and supports industrialization, especially in the Karamoja sub-region, which has long been associated with insecurity and underdevelopment.
