Holcim in Spain to install a CCS system at Sagunto

Holcim Sagunto

A consortium formed by Holcim, Enagás, and Saggas has announced the CO2necta project for a joint decarbonisation project in Spain. The aim is to avoid the emission of more than 0.56 Mta of CO2 from the Sagunto cement plant (photo), and to transfer the captured and liquefied CO2 through the Enagás transport infrastructures to the Saggas terminal in the nearby Port of Sagunto for later geological storage. A part of the captured CO2 can be used for the production of e-methanol and other biofuels. The investment for the project which should be operational by 2030 has not been revealed, pending obtaining European funds.
