Globally the company is operating more the 21 Mta of cement capacity, in Pakistan about 17 Mta at the two cement plants in Pezu and Karachi. The Pezu plant generates 28% of the energy requirement from alternative sources such as waste heat from the kilns and about 18% from renewable energy such as solar and wind, while the Karachi plant uses 27% alternative and 23% renewable energy. Additionally, the company is using refuse derived fuel (RDF) from municipal solid waste (MSW) and rice husk. The Pezu project (photo), the largest on-site captive solar plant in Pakistan, generates approximately 62 GWh annually, while cutting 37,400 t of CO2.
