Heidelberg Materials is pausing its investment in CCS carbon capture at the cement factory in Slite, Sweden. This announcement comes after the Swedish Energy Agency rejected the company’s application for further co-financing the CCS project. The project, which aimed to reduce the cement plant’s CO2 emissions by up to 1.8 Mta, is now uncertain. Without the state’s continued support for implementation, there are currently insufficient conditions to realize the project in Sweden, said Karin Comstedt Webb, Deputy CEO of Heidelberg Materials Sweden in a press release.
