Lucky Cement from Pakistan disclosed its plans to expand the cement production capacity in the DR Congo (DRC) by a 2nd 1.6 Mta line. An EPC contract has been awarded to the Sinoma Group. Nyumba Ya Akiba S.A. (NYA), which is the local joint venture of Lucky Cement with the Rawji Group set up a greenfield integrated cement plant (photo) with a capacity of 1.18 Mta in December 2016 in the Central Province of DRC. Accordingly, the capacity will be increased to about 2.8 Mta, which will make the Lucky Cement joint venture the largest player in DRC, followed by PPC Barnet, who operate a 3000 tpd cement plant near Kimpese.
