Aalborg Portland has officially submitted a bid for the CCS pool by the Danish Energy Agency. The project, which is called ACCSION (Aalborg Portland Carbon Capture & Storage using Infrastructure Onshore in North Jutland) will be established in collaboration with Air Liquide, and aims to capture about 1.4 Mta of CO2 from the cement production plant in Aalborg by 2030. When the project is operational, Aalborg Portland could deliver around 46% of the industry’s total reduction targets in Denmark by 2030. Accordingly, the company is hoping for a support by the Danish Energy Agency who has received two final bids for DKK 28.7bn (nearly € 3.84bn). Contracts are expected to be awarded in April.
