According to rating agency ICRA, the leading cement producers in India plan to invest INR 12,000 – 13,000 crore (US$1.3–1.4bn) in green-power in the next two years (photo: Solar park Ultratech). ICRA expects that the major cement companies will increase their green power capacity in India from about 4.0 GW as of March 2026 to 5.8-6.0 GW by March 2028. The additional capacity could generate annual savings of INR62 – 67bn and achieve a payback within 1.8-2.2 years. The Indian cement industry is accelerating its decarbonisation efforts through increased adoption of green power, blended cements, alternative fuels and clinker efficiency improvements. This transition is also being driven by the need to mitigate fuel cost volatility and enhance cost competitiveness.
