Aalborg Portland, which is part of the Cementir Holding Group, is commissioning its second carbon capture pilot plant. The CCUS method developed under the auspices of ConsenCUS can potentially cut the energy consumption of traditional capture technologies by 50%. The method involves ‘washing’ the CO2 flue gas with liquid potassium hydroxide to absorb the CO2. If the concept works, a full-scale installation is planned at Aalborg Portland to capture 0.4 Mta C02 from the process by 2028.
