The Holcim Lägerdorf CCU carbon capture and utilisation project in Northern Germany has officially been started. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by representatives from politics and business, including Holcim, Thyssenkrupp and Linde. The Holcim C2B (Carbon2 Business) project will capture about 1.2 Mta CO2 from the cement plant, commissioning is scheduled for 2028. The project received a grant from the EU Innovation Fund. ThyssenKrupp Polysius will supply the pure oxyfuel kiln technology to capture the CO2. The technology works by substituting combustion air with pure oxygen, producing a CO2-rich flue gas. The gas is then cooled, purified and liquified for industrial use. Linde is the supplier of the gas system.
