The Danish Energy Agency announced last week that Aalborg Portland has been awarded a contract to capture, transport, and store 1.25 Mta CO2 from 2030. Sixteen companies initially expressed interest in the funding pool of 28.7 billion DKK, and 10 were pre-qualified to participate in the tender (we reported here 05.02.2026). The ACCSION CCS project by Aalborg Portland, which also received an € 220m EU Innovation fund) shall be established in collaboration with Air Liquide, and aims to capture nearly 1.4 Mta of CO2 from the Aalborg cement production plant. When the project is operational, Aalborg Portland could deliver around 46% of the industry’s total reduction targets in Denmark by 2030.
