Cem’In’EU (Cement Innovation in Europe) operates two small cement production plants with a total capacity of about 0.5 Mta and a bulk mineral terminal at the Port of Sète in the South of France. The young industrial company welcomed Philippe Richart, CEO of the World Cement Association (WCA), to its Portes-lès-Valence site (photo) to discuss the challenges of decarbonising the cement industry and the levers available to achieve this goal. The cement plant produces FUSIO low-carbon cements by replacing part of the clinker with natural, locally sourced pozzolans. The plant is connected to the rail network, enabling mineral supplies to the plant to minimise its environmental impact. In the meeting the use of calcined clays as well as SCMs and renewable energies has been discussed.
