For their cement decarbonation, Holcim is using hydrogen as an alternative fuel at its Malle cement plant in France. In first trails, injection rates of more than 50% have been achieved (we reported here 22.02. 2024). Fives Pillard provided the injection nozzle and gas gantry (photo), which enables high hydrogen substitution rates. Having more than 40 years of low NOx experience and with hydrogen content fuels, Fives Pillard has the largest range of burners, which fit for 100% hydrogen combustion as well as for any blend of hydrogen with other fuels. The experience is also based on Fives’ hydrogen technology test facilities in Piacenza (Italy) and Cleveland Ohio (USA) with hydrogen burners and corresponding furnaces.
