France’s Vicat will fully decarbonize Montalieu-Vercieu

Vicat Montalieu

The VAIA-project (Vicat Advanced Industrial Alliance) at France’s largest cement plant is receiving a grant by the EU Innovation Fund. The project at the Montalieu-Vercieu (Isère) 2.0 Mta capacity plant (photo) will produce calcined clay, using the MECAClay technology to reduce the clinker content of the produced cement and capture about 1.2 Mta of process CO2 by using a CCS-technology. According to our information from March this year, the captured CO₂ shall be transported via a converted pipeline to Fos-sur-Mer, where it will be liquefied and permanently sequestered in geological reservoirs.
