Grupo Cementos de Chihuahua (GCC) is expanding its Odessa cement plant in Texas, USA by 1.1 Mta, while reducing significantly the greenhouse gas emissions. The company has concluded two bank loan agreements totalling US$ 135m to fund the project. The expansion shall be operational mid-2025. Thyssenkrupp Polysius is the main supplier for the equipment (we reported here 31. August 2023). Up to now the 0.514 Mta capacity Odessa plant, in 2016 acquired from Cemex, has been mainly producing oil-well cements and had a capacity utilisation of 89% in 2023. With the expansion the cement range shall increase and possibly cement imports from Mexico will be reduced.
