Germany has the worldwide first pure oxyfuel CCUS plant

After 7 years of intensive work, the Research Company CI4C GmbH & Co. KG officially inaugurated the world’s first of its kind CCUS facility in the cement industry, applying the pure oxyfuel process designed by thyssenkrupp Polysius in Germany. The €120m ‘Catch4Climate’ project at Schwenk’s Mergelstetten cement plant is a joint action by the 4 cement producers Dyckerhoff, Heidelberg Materials, Schwenk Zement and Vicat. The newly installed 450 tpd clinker line (Credit: Schwenk/Theo Stumpp) is intended solely for research into carbon capture technologies. The project also incorporates a CO₂ purification unit (CPU) developed by Linde Engineering, to process the captured CO₂ stream for transport, storage and/or utilisation.
