The foundation work on Schwenk’s meca-clay plant in Allmendingen, Germany, has been completed ahead of schedule. The meca-clay technology shall realize for the first time to convert all types of clays into highly reactive cement additives using only electrical energy, thereby reducing CO2 emissions. The process is based on mechanochemical activation, which is also used by Schwenk for the production of their ‘green’ Celitement (we reported here 29.02.2024 and 15.12.2023). According to thyssenkrupp Polysius, the supplier of the plant, the construction site mobilisation will be completed in June. Anyhow, the development of the key equipment, including the cutting-edge activation bead mill, is progressing smoothly. Thyssenkrupp Polysius expects to hand over the pilot plant in spring next year.
